BIOGRAPHY

Rooted in gospel music from an early age, Nii Odai developed his voice and stage presence within the powerful traditions of church performance. This foundation continues to shape his music today, bringing spiritual depth, teachings, genuine joy, and strong audience connection to every performance.

A naturally gifted multi-instrumentalist, Nii Odai is not only an expressive singer, skilled Ga songwriter and energetic dancer, he is also a accomplished flautist and percussionist, and has recently expanded his repertoire with the Saxophone. His deep connection to rhythm and melody reflects a lifelong dedication to his craft.

His musical journey began early, at around 5 years of age he created and tuned home-made drums from Milo tins from his mother's store. By the age of eight, Nii Odai was a child prodigy playing percussion for an adult band and was nicknamed “Anaanu” (meaning ‘Spider’ as he was unique in that he could play numerous instruments), a couple of years later, he led a promising young band called “Effee-Noko” to success, eventually winning a Folk Band competition which lead them to touring internationally, demonstrating remarkable talent and leadership. Around this time, Nii Odai developed his signature multiple flute playing act, playing up to four flutes at once.

In 1999 Nii Odai first toured Australia with “Kusun” a successful cultural band as one of their founding members. Down the track, Kusun gave birth to the touring traditional percussion band “Wala”, building a reputation for dynamic, memorable and engaging cultural live drumming and dance shows which lead Nii Odai to move to Australia permanently along with the other founding members of the band.

In Ghana, Nii Odai has earned recognition and awards for his excellence in traditional music as well as his contributions to highlife, collaborating with other respected Ghanaian artists along the way. He also won the first 'Africa's got Talent' competition in QLD Australia in 2021 which showcased his deep musical versatility.

While deeply committed to preserving and respecting his cultural roots, Nii Odai is equally a modern artist carving out his own place in the global Afrobeats movement. He writes and performs original music across Afrobeats, reggae and highlife delivering a signature sound defined by infectious rhythms, powerful vocals, and crowd engaging energy.

Now based in Melbourne, Nii Odai continues to connect with diverse audiences through music that transcends borders and celebrates both rich cultural heritage from the Motherland and embraces innovation.
